Filmmaking: The Courses (FILM 4545/6545 & FILM 4555/6555)

Filmmaking: Pre-Production (each fall) and Filmmaking: Production & Post-Production (each spring) are companion classes that take a short film project from development through pre-production, production, and post. Along the way, students will learn the integral parts that come together to create a larger scale film.

Each student will take an active role in three out of seven departments in each class while learning about the responsibilities of all.

The Departments are:

  • Producing & Directorial
  • Camera
  • Grip & Lighting
  • Sound
  • Art
  • Editorial/Post-Production
  • Marketing

A key part of the experience is selection, by the fall section, of the script from our annual F&MAD Short Script Competition. The competition is open to all U of U students who were registered at the time of entry and have a uNID number.

For more information about the script competition, please see our site on Film Freeway.
